NPR bias

Dear Fellow Conservatives,

From Traditional Values Coalition [TVC]

Many of you may have been following the story this weekend of NPR's firing of Juan Williams, an NPR news analyst, for remarking that he feels "nervous when he sees passengers in Muslim clothing on a plane." Immediately following the firing, NPR's CEO Vivian Schiller went on a media blitz inferred that Williams needed to discuss his feelings with his psychiatrist. You can read more about the story in this weekend's Washington Times article.

NPR has a long-history of turning a blind eye to leftist opinion from their commentators that TVC is all too familiar with. In 2002 NPR reporter David Kestenbaum accused TVC of sending anthrax powder through the mail to key U.S. Senators and reported the FBI was investigating TVC. In fact none of this was true and Kestenbaum never lost his job for such unprofessional conduct.

But NPR's liberal bias doesn't end with Kestenbaum either. In 1995 NPR "legal correspondent" Nina Totenberg said that is there is "retributive justice" in the world, the late North Caroline Senator Jesse Helms would get AIDS or his grandchildren would get AIDS. She still has her job at NPR.

In 2005, NPR's "All Things Considered" aired a segment by humorist Andrei Condrescu, who said that the "evaporation of 4 million [people] who believe" in the Rapture, "would leave the world a better place." Condrescu was a contract worker for NPR. He has been with "All Things Considered" since 1983. Would he still be with NPR if he had wished for the evaporation of a billion Muslims?

NPR also has a history of supporting Islamist actions around the world. In June, 2010, NPR hosted a segment by Tom Ashbrook on the Gaza flotilla incident (which was organized with the help of Obama's friend, Bill Ayers, the former Weather Underground terrorist). During the segment Ashbrook had five guests on the show - four were critical of Israel and a Washington Post guest didn't overtly criticize Israel but didn't defend the Jewish state either.

Conservative values are constantly under attack by the liberal media. TVC works to try and expose this hypocrisy by setting the record straight on our blog and in the national media. Williams' firing is just a reminder that our conservative ideals are always under attack in the liberal media. We appreciate the daily support and prayers that we receive from individuals who help us continue to fight to ensure that our nation remains strong and our freedoms protected.

Thank you for your continued support!

Rev. Lou Sheldon
Chairman, Traditional Values Coalition
