Detroit Factory Receives $175 Million Tax Break; Only Hires 15 People … According to the Detroit Free Press, Marathon Petroleum has 514 employees, hiring an additional 194 people ever since the $2.2 billion expansion began in 2007. Out of those employees, however, only 30 of them are from Detroit, and 15 of those employees were hired in the expansion, which the City Council find ludicrous. (The city is experiencing double-digit unemployment, after all.) [mediaite.com] 3/15/14

Detroit is living proof of what happens when you leave Democrats in charge of the store. Will Detroit care? Will California change their political will? Is Illinois next?

Detroit's 'One Party' State Killed It. … Auto industry executives, who often were invertebrate mediocrities, continually bought labor peace by mortgaging their companies' futures in surrenders to union demands. … Then city officials gave their employees — who have 47 unions, including one for crossing guards — pay scales comparable to those of autoworkers. Thus did private-sector decadence drive public-sector dysfunction — government negotiating with government-employees' unions that are government organized as an interest group to lobby itself to do what it wants to do: Grow. The Detroit-Obama-Democrat Malaise

Detroit is in its dreadful financial shape. Why? The Voters of Detroit have continued to vote for The Big Democrat Spenders decade after decade.

Today, it appears that many young and easily influenced voters in the USA are doing the same thing. By 2012, it was crystal clear that the US economy was on a financial glide path to insolvency. It still is. Yet, young voters appear willing to vote for any politician not running as a Republican.

It appears that the USA will follow, if it stays on the same tax and spend path of Obama and the Democrats, the exact same path to destruction as Detroit as well as many nations in Europe such as Greece and Spain in particular.

The economic indicators could not be any more clear. They include: Increase in part time jobs, not full time jobs. High unemployment. Uncounted millions not working. Record high numbers of people on public assistance. Calls for higher taxes. Poor real estate values. Mushy retail sales. Expanding school food programs. Huge student debt. Flight from the economically troubled states.

Big Dem Gov wants all of the US Taxpayer money it can get so they can add more "benefactors" to their voting block. [i.e., non-producers, takers, moochers]. Not coincidentally, the exact same thing is happening in California and the other financially strapped states. They all continue to vote for all of the same brand of politicians who continue to take us down the path of insolvency and malaise.

We get what we vote for. =TheRightJack on 8/6/13

Economic tragedy coming?

Can people who are mathematically illiterate begin to grasp the magnitude of the financial crisis for pensioners that the local, state and federal governments have created with their un-affordable and un-funded full salary pension plans with lavish health care benefits. We know that there are many people who DO know math and will not acknowledge this coming economic disaster, for the welfare state and seniors in particular. =TheRightJack on 7/29/13
